Modern Masters: Heath Ceramics.

Edith Heath, a pioneer of the modern ceramics movement, helped to change the world of home products design. Her studio, which began in 1948 and operates to this day, has turned out some amazingly beautiful works:

She is known for her groundbreaking glazing techniques and for experimenting with unusual clays that had never before been turned into pots and tableware. Her designs are timelessly modern with an earthly, warm quality that takes you back to California in the 50's and 60's.

But it is her tiles that take my breath away. Look at the gorgeous variations in the glazes that lend such a wonderful handmade modern feel. Beautiful.

This one is my absolute favorite:

I'll have some of that tile in our house. Even if the budget only allows for one tiny powder room backsplash. Even if the budget only allows for 5 tiles to make a trivet.

I'll have some.

Laguna Pottery out of Seattle has a nice selection of her designs.

Ms. Heath passed away this past December at the ripe old age of 94 years old. She left a legacy that will enhance our homes and lives for years to come.

We love Edith Heath.

This stuff is gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm looking at possibly building a new home in the next year and your site is a treasure-trove of inspirations.
