Cravings: Wormley Benches
Why am I so obsessed with finding a pair of these benches that aren't $8000?
I want them. I need them. They're keeping me up at night.
Designed in the 50's by Edward Wormley and manufactured in mahogany by Dunbar, these simple and elegant benches already have a home waiting in my living room. The examples above are priced at $7900 on 1stdibs.com. Ugh.
I'd have to recover them with a richer fabric, however. My baby dachshunds need comfort.

Could you attempt to build them? They are completely cool...or even maybe have a woodworker make them for you? (I can't imagine that would be 8000 dollars!). The tops look easy enough...
Hi Scott,
I read most of your blog and found it quite entertaining, esp. since my wife and I are mid-century modern nuts. I'm writing to see if you'd like to answer 3 - 4 questions about houseblogging in general. I'm a weekly architecture columnist in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and I'm doing something on this crazy phenomena (as a matter of fact, you linked to one of my columns about Kessler Woods in the Globe and Mail as it appeared on their website!). Anyhow, if you see this anytime before February 11 and would like to participate, please send me an email address that we can use to correspond.
Cheers,
Dave LeBlanc

Sorry, should have given you a direct email address! Pls write me at:

if you have any interest in participating

Hey Scott...
Love yoru blog, and more importantly, love your house on South Center. I was actually looking into the KRDB "condo" on Cardinal.
You've done a kickass job documenting and decorating your place. I'm bummed that all the units are sold...guess i started looking into the area too late.
If you get a sec, shoot me an email...just wanted to pick your brain with a few questions about this world of urban/modern housing....
Thanks.
Take care.

Hi Robert,
I'll be happy to chat with you but you didn't leave an address and I can't find one on your blog link.
Shoot me an email at:
mod.odysseus at yahoo dot com
And we'll chat.
Thanks,
Scott
Sharkseyday, you may be right!
They really wouldn't be that difficult to replicate...or at least build a close 2nd.
I may look into that. Thanks for the idea.
Using 1st Dibs is not a good source for finding a real-world price. For instance, there is a boatload of Wormley that I found on the Dallas Craigslist for reasonable prices. And then there is always eBay. Don't give up the hunt! That's where the fun is.
